The Italian pavilion is promoting the theme of “Art Regenerates Life”. Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo is supporting the Piedmont Region on this strategic occasion to strengthen international relations and promote culture, development and innovation.
From 28 September to 4 October 2025, Piedmont will be represented at Expo Osaka, through a series of meetings, cultural events and institutional engagements hosted in the Italian Pavilion.
This official mission brings together the Region, local authorities, universities, businesses and cultural institutions, with the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.
Today at 11:00 a.m. (Osaka time), the Chair of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, Marco Gilli, joined the “Piedmont World Heritage: A Journey Through UNESCO Sites” panel via video link, contributing to the conversation on the region’s excellence and the role of cultural heritage as a driver of sustainable development.
Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo’s support reflects its strategic vision, aimed at promoting development-driven policies, fostering job creation, entrepreneurial growth, culture, creativity and innovation.
As Mr Gilli highlighted in his remarks, the Osaka Expo offers a valuable opportunity to showcase Piedmont’s unique ability to integrate culture, research, business and community, striking a balance that serves as a model for a sustainable future.
“We have been working for the common good since 1563, putting people in charge of their future. We are a philanthropic foundation with an international outlook and deep roots in our local communities. Our mission is to create structural solutions that address the root causes of today’s most pressing challenges trough investment in innovation, experimentation and the power of networks. In this light, Piedmont’s participation in Expo Osaka is a meaningful occasion to demonstrate how our region brings together culture, research, enterprise and civic engagement in a way that points toward a more sustainable tomorrow”.Said Mr Gilli, commenting on the Region’s presence at the World Expo.
Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo has long been committed to the protection and enhancement of UNESCO World Heritage sites, through initiatives focused on the Savoy Residences – recognised as UNESCO sites since 1997 – and the restoration and repurposing of the Cavallerizza Reale in Turin, a symbol of urban and cultural regeneration.
The organisation’s commitment also extends to the Sacri Monti of Piedmont (UNESCO since 2003), where it supports preventive conservation, integrated site management and the development of innovative cultural itineraries.
Special attention is given to the wine-growing landscapes of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, where Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo is exploring sustainable development strategies that connect tourism, agricultural production and the safeguarding of cultural heritage.
In parallel, the organisation also supports UNESCO Creative Cities, helping to foster cultural networks in sectors such as design, gastronomy and textiles.
Since 2000, over 77 million euros have been invested to help establish Piedmont as a leading cultural and tourist destination on the international stage. The organisation’s commitment goes beyond the physical restoration of heritage assets; it aims to generate social, economic and civic value, transforming cultural heritage into a catalyst for sustainable development and regional innovation.
Through its support for the Piedmont Region at Expo di Osaka, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo reaffirms its role alongside Piedmontese institutions in fostering international dialogue and contributing to the region’s economic, cultural and social growth, enhancing a heritage that serves both as a collective memory and a resource for future development.
