With this belief, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo has launched the new Starter Call for Proposals, an opportunity for organisations and cultural institutions based in Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d’Aosta to develop cultural and creative projects that stimulate critical thinking and public debate around today’s pressing issues.

Promoted as part of the Culture Goal of the Building Capacity to Attract mission, and developed in collaboration with the Planet GoalProtecting the Environment mission, the initiative aims to engage communities on environmental topics and highlight the cultural sector’s key role in sharing innovative, intergenerational messages.

Starter is open to cultural organisations and institutions, which may apply either individually or as part of a partnership. Proposals should involve artists and creatives, both from Italy and abroad, working alongside at least an expert in environmental or climate-related fields.

Through Starter, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo aims to engage and support the cultural and artistic landscape across its focus regions, encouraging research, experimentation, and transdisciplinary production. The initiative promotes new and meaningful collaborations between cultural institutions and climate change specialists. Particular attention will be given to projects that experiment with systemic design methodology, an innovative approach to cultural and creative production that can help shape new narratives and practices rooted in ecological awareness and inclusivity.

The initiative is part of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo’s new 2025–2028 multi-year programme and aligns with international efforts such as the New European Bauhaus, which bridges sustainability with culture and the arts, as well as the United Nations’ recognition of the role played by culture role in climate action.

Applications are open until 15 July 2025.

An informational webinar will take place on 14 May starting at 11 a.m., offering an overview of the opportunities available through the call. This session is the first step to learn how to take part in the call and submit a project proposal. To attend the webinar, please register at this link.
