[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”text-headline2″]The global “JUST EVOLVE” initiative encourages us to reflect on the power of words and how language can either promote or block inclusion. It is a call to challenge stereotypes and harmful representations of people with disabilities, fostering a culture that honours the dignity and worth of every individual.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″ el_class=”page-content”][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”text”]Marking World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March, the international JUST EVOLVE campaign, promoted by CoorDown, invites the public to reflect urgently on the power of language and on how words shape our understanding of disability.

The focus is not on “wrong words”, but on the profound impact certain expressions can have when they become tools used to mock or offend people. Whenever disability is used as an insult or metaphor to signal weakness, inability or failure, people are reduced to symbols, seen only through stereotypes that trigger immediate emotional reactions, fuelling prejudice, legitimising discrimination and hindering full social inclusion.

The Campaign, developed in collaboration with the New York-based SMALL creative agency and produced by Indiana Production, has a global reach and involves international partners including the National Down Syndrome Society in the United States, the Down’s Syndrome Association in the United Kingdom, the Canadian Down Syndrome Society and similar organisations in Australia, New Zealand and Spain. Nationally, the initiative is supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and Fondazione Cariplo, with the involvement of the Municipality of Vigevano and private partners, amplifying the campaign’s educational and cultural impact and promoting a shared message of respect and inclusion.

JUST EVOLVE invites everyone to take a collective step towards a necessary cultural shift. The campaign film, featuring young actor Noah M. Matofsky, uses irony and wit to show how outdated behaviours have been left behind, and are no longer acceptable. Similarly, offensive language about disability belongs to a past that we must definitively move beyond. Continuing to use outdated language keeps us anchored to models that no longer reflect the values of an inclusive society.

The message is clear: evolving our language means recognizing the dignity and worth of every person and choosing a narrative that fosters respect and inclusion. The campaign speaks to everyone: citizens, schools, businesses, media and institutions, inviting all to actively contribute to a culture free from discrimination. Words shape reality, and using them consciously is the first step towards turning rights into tangible opportunities, building communities that are more equal and participatory.

Through digital and social initiatives, “JUST EVOLVE” shares the stories of people with disabilities and their families, showing that change is possible and necessary. The campaign encourages everyone to replace offensive language with respectful words, reminding us that true inclusion grows out of kindness and daily awareness. Every communicative choice can help create a world where the self-determination and participation of every individual are recognised and valued. In today’s context, where insults sometimes surface even in public debate, reflection is not only the responsibility of communicators.

Each of us has the opportunity, and the responsibility, to act with awareness and empathy, choosing words that respect everyone’s dignity and foster a culture of inclusion.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”64px”][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB07h9WM5A8″ css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
