Located on the hospital’s first floor, the new unit has been created with the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and in collaboration with the Piedmont Region, the City of Turin and the City of Turin Local Health Authority. It features two operating theatres equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and patient comfort.

The opening of the Centre, held on the occasion of the 34th World Day of the Sick, marks an important milestone in the hospital’s reorganisation and modernisation plan for 2025–2030.

The morning was devoted to a conference on inequalities and mental health , which opened with a keynote address given by professor Alberto Siracusano, President of the Consiglio Superiore di Sanità. Among those in attendance were Regional Councillor Federico Riboldi, the Local Health Authority Director Carlo Picco and Father Paolo Fini. They were welcomed by the facility’s leadership team: Father Carmine Arice and Gian Paolo Zanetta.

The new unit will focus primarily on ophthalmology, orthopaedics and minor surgery, helping reduce waiting lists and enhance the overall patient experience. Patients will be able to return home on the same day as their procedure.

Support for the new Complex Outpatient Surgery unit forms part of the strategy defined under the Foundation’s Planet Objective, within its Promoting Well-Being Mission, which aims to strengthen the accessibility, efficiency and quality of healthcare services.

By fostering innovative organisational models and encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies, the Turin-based philanthropic organisation is promoting the evolution of a healthcare system that is increasingly effective and centred on people’s needs.

The project at Cottolengo Hospital helps consolidate an integrated approach to healthcare, combining high clinical quality standards with a strong focus on prevention and sustainability in the medium- to long-term.

In this context, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo reaffirms its commitment to creating value for communities, reducing inequalities in access to care and strengthening collaboration among institutions, non-profit organisations and local communities, in line with its priorities for the 2025-2028 four-year period.

The inauguration of the new Centre marks one of the first milestones in Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo’s 2026 programme, translating into action the priorities identified in the areas of health and care.

The healthcare guidelines, together with planned initiatives in other strategic areas connected to the Culture, People and Planet Goals, will be presented in greater detail on 20 February during the online event launching the 2026 Annual Programming Document.

The event will open with remarks by the Chair Marco Gilli and Secretary General Alberto Anfossi, followed by presentations from the Goal Managers — Matteo Bagnasco (Culture), Marzia Sica (People) and Paolo Mulassano (Planet) — who will outline the year’s priorities, tools and operational strategies.

The webinar will provide an operational overview of the strategic priorities and tools through which Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo aims to strengthen its “pact with the local community“, enhancing the planning capacity of local organisations to address future challenges in a comprehensive and coordinated way.

Registration is required to attend. Additional information and the registration link are available here.
