First viewing of the enhancement and preservation project concerning the Genoese basilica on July 5th
The Basilica of Santa Maria delle Vigne, in the historical heart of Genoa, exemplifies how complex and richly layered the city is from an urban, artistic and social viewpoint.
A brand-new itinerary opening at the end of September will involve areas of the church never seen before by the public, taking it through a thousand years of history in just a few steps and highlighting the tangible traces left by centuries of history.
The project “Basilica di Santa Maria delle Vigne - la meraviglia è aperta (Basilica of Santa Maria delle Vigne - the wonder unveiled)” means that enhancement and preservation of the church can blend perfectly, following in the footsteps of the most interesting “best practices” in Italy and internationally. In 2019-2020 the basilica will see an important series of restoration works including those to the organ, the frescoes in the presbytery and apse, as well as the upkeep of the central nave windows.
Compagnia di San Paolo supports the church’s restoration with an overall investment of €600,000 plus an important contribution of €350,000, deliberated last April.
A preview of the work is scheduled for July 5th with the following:
Mons. Nicolò Anselmi – Basilica of Santa Maria delle Vigne
Vincenzo Tiné - Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape
Roberto Timossi - Compagnia di San Paolo
