Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and diabetic macular edema (DME) are among the main causes       of blindness in Italy.

In 1998 support from Compagnia di San Paolo helped to create the Centre for Diabetic Retinopathy (CDR),  for  screening,  diagnosis and therapy of this pathology inside the hospital hub.

In 2017 Compagnia is again supporting the centre with a contribution of € 135,000 for the purchase of a new retinal camera, an OCT machine (Optical Coherence Tomography) and new IT instruments.

This structural boost should favour an upsurge in early diagnosis and consequent better and faster treatment of pathologies.
