This is highlighted in the first &#8220;<strong>Foundations&#8217; Actions for the EU Mission Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities<\/strong>\u201d report produced by <strong>Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo<\/strong> as part of a research project launched in collaboration with Philea (Philanthropy Europe Association) aimed at mapping the contributions made by these foundations towards achieving the goal<\/p>\n<p>In order to thoroughly document the efforts made by philanthropic organisations, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo carried out a survey of <strong>Climate City Contracts (CCCs)<\/strong> published on the <strong>NetZeroCities<\/strong> platform, offering a comprehensive overview of the actions being implemented.<\/p>\n<p>The report is divided into two main sections: The first section <strong>analyses the actions outlined in the CCCs<\/strong>, strategic agreements signed by 38 foundations that define the commitments of cities and other stakeholders involved in the journey towards climate neutrality. The second section expands the analysis to include <strong>other European philanthropic foundations<\/strong> which, although not mentioned in the CCCs, are playing a crucial role in advancing climate neutrality goals.<\/p>\n<p>In total, the report documents the efforts of <strong>58 foundations operating in 22 European cities that are signatories to the agreements,<\/strong> along with <strong>16 foundations that support related initiatives<\/strong>. The analysis emphasises various models of collaboration, preferred areas of intervention and funding strategies adopted to accelerate the transition to climate neutrality.<\/p>\n<p>From this perspective, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo\u2019s engagement in the urban transition toward climate neutrality forms part of a broader, more structured institutional vision. The involvement of <strong>Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo\u2019s Secretary General<\/strong>, <strong>Alberto Anfossi<\/strong>, as a member of the Mission Board for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, underscores the organisation\u2019s <strong>active and strategic role in this ambitious European mission<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>An involvement which reflects the <strong>priority that Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo places on addressing climate change<\/strong>, recognised in its 2025-2028 Multi-Year Planning Document as one of the four critical megatrends affecting the regions in which it operates. Within this planning document, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo adopts a strategic approach based on four cross-cutting methodologies, with the concept of <strong>Learning<\/strong> being central. This is understood as the <strong>ability to systematically learn<\/strong> from experience through <strong>data analysis<\/strong> and collaboration with various stakeholders, aiming to
