Marco Gilli<\/h3>\n

Marco Gilli was born in Turin in 1965 and has been Chair of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo since 16 April 2024; between 2019 and 2024 is was Scientific Attach\u00e9<\/strong> (Science & Technology Counselor) at theItalian Embassy in the USA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 1990 he was awarded the Andreoni Prize<\/strong>, presented by the Association of Engineers and Architects of the Polytechnic of Turin to the best Graduate in Electronic Engineering<\/strong>. He subsequently worked as a Researcher<\/strong> in the Electrical Engineering sector at the Polytechnic of Turin<\/strong>, becoming Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1998.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Currently <\/strong>Full Professor of Electrical Engineering <\/strong> at the University\u2019s First Faculty of Engineering, between May 2002 and September 2003, Gilli took on<\/strong> the role of Assistant Dean<\/strong> and subsequently Deputy Dean in 2005<\/strong>, a post he held until September 2005, when he was appointed Assistant Deputy Rector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A career on the rise which led him, in 2012,<\/strong> to succeed Francesco Profumo<\/strong> as Rector of the Polytechnic of Turin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Since 2005, as Professor, he has been responsible for various national and international projects <\/strong>and, as Rector<\/strong>, for partnership agreements regarding training, research and technology transfer with around 40 leading companies in the manufacturing,<\/strong> energy<\/strong> (including ENEL, ENI, TERNA, EDF, State Grid China) and Information Technology sectors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As Rector, Gilli was also responsible for over 100 international agreements with the most prestigious technological universities in Europe and around the world<\/strong>, including UC-Berkeley and MIT, as well as the establishment of 11 Interdepartmental Centres at the Polytechnic of Turin<\/strong>, on the model of those existing at MIT \/ UC \u2013 Berkeley \/ EPFL, in the following strategic sectors: Big Data<\/strong> – Machine Learning<\/strong>, Additive Manufacturing<\/strong>, Mobility<\/strong>, Energy<\/strong>, Health Technologies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Since 1990, Marco Gilli has authored or co-authored over 200 publications<\/strong> in international scientific journals or in the proceedings of international congresses<\/p>\n

His research activity<\/strong> has been mainly focused on the field<\/strong> of theory and applications of electrical networks and non-linear systems<\/strong>, neural networks and machine learning<\/strong>, and partly in the field of electromagnetism.<\/p>\n

From 1999, Professor Gilli was General Chair<\/strong>, Technical Program Chair, Track Chair and Special session Chair <\/strong>for a significant number of International Conferences, organised in particular by the IEEE<\/strong> (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Already a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)<\/strong> and Member of the Turin Academy of Sciences<\/strong> since 2012, from 2019 and in all subsequent years<\/strong>, Marco Gilli <\/strong>has been included in the world ranking of scientists with the highest level of scientific productivity<\/strong> (World\u2019s 2% Top Scientists<\/strong>) drawn up by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.<\/p>\n

In 2017, the current Chair of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo was also Scientific Director of the \u201cG7 \u2013 SMEs and Digital Transformation<\/strong>\u201d session of the “Multistakeholder Conference\u201d that preceded the G7 ministerial \u201cICT & Industry\u201d meeting.<\/p>\n

The prizes and awards received include the Premio Ravani – Pellati in 1998<\/strong> – awarded by the Turin Academy of Sciences <\/strong>for contributions to progress in the field of physics and electrical engineering in particular – and the Best Paper Award of the International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications <\/strong>in 1994 and 2004.<\/p>\n

The other important positions achieved by Gilli include – to name just a few – his presence as Member of the Scientific Council of Fondazione ENEL<\/strong>, his role as President of the \u201cMicrosoft Innovation Center \u2013 MIC\u201d, Turin<\/strong> and his qualification as member of the Board of Directors of the LINKS Foundation.<\/p>\n
