A renovated facility, designed to accommodate vulnerable people and families, has been returned to the city.
This morning marked the inauguration of the new social housing at Via Fiesole 15/A, a project that stands as a prime example of successful collaboration between the public and private sectors, aimed at fostering social inclusion and addressing the housing needs of vulnerable individuals and families.
The municipal building has been extensively renovated thanks to significant investment from Intesa Sanpaolo. Originally launched in 2022, the construction site has completely transformed the structure, giving it a modern, welcoming feel and making it an ideal space for initiatives with a strong social impact. The City of Turin has also committed substantial resources to the project, securing funding from the PN Metro Plus programme and additional municipal funds for the 2024-2026 period, to ensure the ongoing management of the building.
The facility will offer dedicated support services through projects under the social inclusion plan , with funding from Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, which is focused on creating synergies and processes to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable members of society and help them move towards greater independence.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo, the Councillor for Social and Housing Policies Jacopo Rosatelli, the Chairman of Intesa Sanpaolo Gian Maria Gros-Pietro, the Chairman of Cooperativa Animazione Valdocco, Paolo Petrucci and the Chair of Fondazione Compagnia di San paolo Marco Gilli, who emphasized:
“The collaboration between Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and the City of Turin is a key part of a broader effort where public and private sectors, like Intesa Sanpaolo, join forces to address the community’s social challenges. By adopting an integrated and multi-faceted approach, we are developing innovative and sustainable welfare models. In particular, with interventions such as the Housing in Via Fiesole, we all contribute to overcoming housing poverty. Housing is a fundamental lever to reduce inequalities and improve the quality of life of people in difficulty”.
The building, developed on two levels, has a surface area of 1,500 square metres complemented by an appurtenant green area.. Inside, two types of hospitality are provided to accommodate vulnerable single people and families. The first type , intended for medium-long term stays, includes dedicated rooms consisting of both independent units for families and hotel-style rooms, with a total capacity of 69 people. The second type, designed for short-term accommodation and emergencies, has 20 places and operates in synergy with the City’s Social Emergency Service, welcoming – again, both single people and family units.
The management of the facility has been entrusted by tender to a temporary association of companies, consisting of the Cooperativa Animazione Valdocco Onlus and Cooperativa Sociale P.G. Frassati Scs Onlus. In addition to cooperating with social services, the temporary association will have the task of guiding residents on their journey towards social inclusion and independent living. This initiative also includes cultural mediation support and helps residents access services provided by both public institutions and charities.
Special focus will be placed on the children of the families housed, with programmes and activities designed to support their well-being and integration. These will include opportunities for socialising and paths to achieving inclusion through sports and recreational activities already available in the area.
Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo’s goal is to provide residents with clear pathways towards independence, intended to improve their quality of life and strengthen the local community.
For the Turin-based philanthropic organisation, social housing, like employment, plays a crucial role in helping individuals build a better future and achieve full autonomy.
