The new Paediatric Pulmonology Department of the Regina Margherita Hospital, created with the contribution of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo as part of the HOSPEEDAL project, opened its inpatient area today.

A press conference was held this morning to mark the opening the new “Grazia and Corrado Tadolini” Paediatric Pulmonology Department of the Regina Margherita Hospital – Città della Salute, Turin, a Fondazione Respiro Libero Onlus project supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo as part of the experimental “HOSPEEDAL – Accelerating healthcare innovation” initiative, created to encourage collaboration between the public and private sectors in the implementation of complex projects aimed at redeveloping hospital departments to support technological innovation and improvement and ensure quality of service and patient well-being.

From today, Turin’s Regina Margherita hospital can therefore count on a new highly specialised facility for diagnosing, treating and monitoring young patients with chronic and complex respiratory diseases, also suited to accommodating the families of young patients during periods of treatment.

“Fondazione Compagnia San Paolo supports actions intended to allow the health system to introduce new organisational models, improving the efficiency of resources and offering high-level assistance, particularly through technological innovation”, said Alberto Anfossi during the opening ceremony press conference –  “For this reason, through the HOSPEEDAL experimental initiative, we selected the project promoted by Fondazione Respiro Libero Onlus. The new paediatric pulmonology department integrates clinical skills and technological resources in the best possible way, in order to optimise the entire cycle of care for the benefit of young patients, their families and operators. In fact, we want to welcome children and their families as people with health care needs while also respecting their human requirements, based on their age and clinical conditions.”

Thanks to this project, Fondazione Respiro Libero Onlus has created a hospitalisation facility that fulfils the needs of children and adolescents in need of specialised pulmonology treatments, while also allowing families to stay close to the young patients thanks to specially equipped premises. Work will continue throughout the first half of 2023 to create the outpatient and day hospital area. The new inpatient department project is designed for situations that require sub-intensive respiratory care and therefore provides 13 beds, all monitored, in 12 rooms, including a double room for admitting brothers and sisters. All the rooms are under negative pressure, with air quality monitoring and both respiratory and technological support instruments, activated in a personalised way based on specific needs.
