An innovative Radiology Centre for children was inaugurated this morning at the Piedmont hospital. Thanks to the fruitful collaboration between Azienda Ospedaliera Città della Salute – which managed the creation of the site – Fondazione FORMA and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, which contributed to the purchase of the radiological equipment, the Regina Margherita Hospital will now be able to improve the quality of the services offered and welcome a greater number of young patients, making more accurate diagnoses and promptly starting the specific treatments required.

This morning’s inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives of the city’s institutions along with Giovanni La Valle, Director General of AOU Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino, Giovanni Messori Ioli, Commissioner of the OIRM – Ospedale Infantile Regina Margherita, Franca Fagioli, Director of the Child Care and Pathology Department of the OIRM, the Chair of Fondazione FORMA Antonino Aidala and the Secretary General of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo Alberto Anfossi who said:

Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo’s commitment to technological innovation in the health arena gives priority to projects that help meet the needs of the community, by supporting interventions that have a measurable impact on the efficiency of the health system and the quality of care it provides. Between 2015 and 2019, we provided over €11.8 million of funding for this sector in the Turin area, plus a further €11 million under the Health Equipment Call for Proposals launched in 2019, which supported 15 interventions for Local Health Authorities in the Metropolitan City of Turin, the impacts of which we are starting to monitor. The completion of the Large Equipment Centre will allow the hospital to further improve the quality of the services provided and, at the same time, reach a greater number of paediatric patients, guaranteeing more accurate diagnoses and earlier treatments or interventions. This result has only been possible thanks to the synergistic action of several actors, in the belief that only joint action can multiply the efforts we make and achieve real benefits for the community and the common good”.

This initiative is an important development for the Paediatric Hospital , which can now count on state-of-the-art equipment, including a CT scanner, a standard intensity and a high-intensity MRI scanner (3 Tesla) to tackle more challenging diagnoses.

For Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo in particular, the purchase of the equipment was the result of the Healthcare Equipment Call for Proposals and of a specific initiative launched under the Agreement with the Piedmont Region for the three-year period 2020-2022, an agreement intended specifically to contribute to technological innovation and prevention, in order to meet local needs in the short, medium and long term.

Overall, FCSP supported to the construction of the new area of the Regina Margherita Hospital with a total contribution of over 1 million euros.

The new site inaugurated today covers an area of 470 square metres, divided into three spaces dedicated to the large machinery with an associated controls and preparation area, as well as reporting, examination and ultrasound rooms, reception areas, waiting areas, and a play area for children.
