The inauguration ceremony is planned for this evening at 6.00 pm

Fondazione Collegio Carlo Alberto, an auxiliary body of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, will inaugurate the 2020-2021 Academic Year with an online ceremony planned for this evening at 6.00 pm.

The meeting will begin with opening remarks by the Rector of the University of Turin, Stefano Geuna, and the Chair of Compagnia di San Paolo, Francesco Profumo.
Following this, Giorgio Barba Navaretti, Chair of Fondazione Collegio Carlo Alberto, will illustrate the activities planned for the academic year.

The inaugural lecture: “Attitudes, Aptitudes, and the Emergence of the Modern Economy”, will be given by Joel Mokyr, Northwestern University, a world-renowned economics historian, with an introduction by Aldo Geuna, Fondazione Collegio Carlo Alberto – University of Turin.

In his lecture, Mokyr will focus on the origins of the European economic development that followed the Industrial Revolution, analysing above all the role of cultural changes that allowed European elites to become the engines of economic and technological progress.
