The call is directed towards humanities and social scientists who are investigating the long term developments of the challenges which the European continent is facing.
The Compagnia di San Paolo, together with the Volkswagen (leader) e Carlsberg foundations, is promoting the Challenges for Europe call for proposals. The call is directed towards humanities and social scientists who are investigating the long term developments of the challenges which the European continent is facing and which can only be dealt with at European level. From challenges to democracy to those of migration, terrorism, economic and social inequality, from financial and economic challenges to populism, disinformation and cybersecurity. The perimeter of the call encompasses the abovementioned themes but is also more far-reaching.
Targets of the funding will be highly interactive research consortiums composed of a maximum of five PI/partners coming from at least three different European countries. Academics working at European universities and research institutes can apply.
Maximum duration of the projects is 4 years and the maximum funding per project will be €1,000,000.
The selection process will be in two phases: until midnight (CET) of 13th December 2018 a pre-proposal may be presented (for further details, see ‘Application Checklist’ attached to the call and the FAQ). Applications may be made exclusively in English. A group of international experts will then draw up a shortlist of groups who will be invited to present a full proposal (June 2019). The applicants chosen will be invited to present their projects to the experts designated for the assessment (for further details see the ‘Timeline’ paragraph in the attached call).
