On September 19th, the twenty-fifth edition of the International Fair of Contemporary Art was presented.
Directed for the second year by Ilaria Bonacossa, Artissima opens for the press on Thursday 1st November and opens its doors to the public from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th November at the Oval in Turin.
Recognised internationally for its attention to experimental practices and as a springboard for emerging artists and research galleries, Artissima is a unique event that attracts an audience of collectors, professionals of the sector and enthusiasts every year.
The theme of the twenty-fifth edition is "time" (Time is on our side) seen as a dynamic flow that can beat the rhythm of change while preserving temporary suspensions of emotions of the artwork.
The fair is organised into eight sections: the Main Section with the most representative galleries of the world’s art scene (this year 94 were selected, 44 of which were foreign), New Entries, a section reserved for emerging galleries on the international scene ( with 14 galleries, 10 of which are foreign), Dialogue dedicated to specific projects in which the works of two or three artists are closely related, with 19 galleries of which 12 are foreign, Art Spaces & Editions hosting galleries specialised in artist editions and multiples, project spaces and non-profit spaces, with 9 exhibitors. There are four sections organised by board of curators and directors of international museums: Present Future, Back to the Future, Drawings eSound dedicated to contemporary sound investigations (one of the many new features of this year).
The press conference to present the fair took place on September 19th at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni. Anna Maria Poggi of the Management Committee was present for Compagnia di San Paolo: "Compagnia di San Paolo has supported Artissima since 2002, recognising not only its value and international role in contemporary art, but also the essential importance it has for our territory and for Turin’s whole contemporary system. Since 2017, in synergy with the management of the Fair, the foundation has focused its efforts on Artissima digital. This three-year project aims at programmatically implementing the digital environment of Artissima to give life to an actual ecosystem capable of responding to the needs of an increasingly digitised art world. This attention fully meets Compagnia’s goal of promoting opportunities related to the digital sphere and new technologies in culture and their development role in its various fields of action, from management to organisation, from communication to fruition, fostering themes and actions of digital and cultural innovation in cultural bodies ".
