Economic, Political, and Social Research

For many years, the Compagnia has been present in the field of economic research with a growing role entrusted to one of its operating bodies, the “Fondazione Collegio Carlo Alberto,” set up in partnership with the University of Torino. The Foundation carries out its activity by closely connecting basic research to applied research.
Basic research is conducted by fellows who are recruited internationally; a consistent part of the resources is destined to research doctorate courses in economics with the University of Torino, that have found stable location at the Collegio. Applied research is mostly carried out by research centers or research units that are presently active on the themes of innovation economics, welfare, family economics, work economics, and European governance. The link between basic and applied research has made it possible to come to proposals that can influence local, national, and European policies.
The Compagnia feels that the work method that has been applied to the field of economics should also be systematically extended to other sectors of social and political sciences, which will find a main point of reference in the relationship with the Collegio, albeit not exclusive.
As far as the establishment or the attraction of new research centers or units are concerned, they must have – like the existing ones – a restricted scope of research defined not as much on the basis of the subjects as of the themes, and favoring interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research.
