Health

Interventions in the sector of public health services are realized through the financing of numerous projects, destined, until now, especially to the acquisition of innovative equipment for the research, diagnosis, and cure, and in a smaller yet still considerable part, to the study of new management models in the area of heath care. Next to these are smaller contributions in areas of specialization (neurosurgery, transplants, emergency medicine) and in the fight against socially relevant pathologies.
Even though the total entity of these interventions does not match the needs of the heath care system in Torino and Piedmont, and is by far less than the regional balance destined to public health services, there is no doubt that they have helped to promote leading sectors in medicine and surgery, carrying out a precious function as a substitute means.
Also in the 2009-2012 four-year period will the Compagnia engage in initiatives that have as their central goals public health, intended as an individual and collective right, and the patient, for whom the right to health is intended (and as the person responsible for the manner in which this right is pursued).
These initiatives will be started in agreement with the Region and the Regional Agency for Health Care Services (AReSS), subject to prior evaluation of their coherence with the indications of the regional planning. The interventions will concern, besides the purchase of equipment for research, diagnosis, and innovative treatments, the support to the Region in the area of technology assessment (in which the Compagnia has a direct interest, also in relation to its choices of financing); the study of new management models for healthcare companies, also through the development of networking (an ambit in which the competences of the Boella Institute could be precious); the development of system strategies in the field of emergency medicine; primary and secondary prevention of socially relevant pathologies; all of this in a complementary form with respect to the interventions in the sector of biomedical sciences and of biotechnology.
